YOUR LOVE STORY

HOW DID YOUR LOVE STORY START?

We met one New Years Eve at Bluey’s Point when we were 16 through mutual friends. 6 months later we were dating and have now been together for almost 9 years.

TELL US ABOUT HOW BEN PROPOSED TO YOU?

Ben told me we were going for lunch up at Palm Beach and on the drive there said we were running a bit early so pulled over at the Bible Gardens, which is one of my favourite places. As we started walking down the steps there was a trail of rose petals leading to a beautiful set-up where he got down on one knee and popped the question.

He had a beautiful speech but honestly I think I blacked out from excitement so barely remember It! Then he surprised me by taking me on a seaplane to a gorgeous restaurant and when we came home our families and best friends were there to surprise me. It was honestly such a dream… he really outdid himself!

THE PRELUDE

WHAT WAS THE THINKING PROCESS BEHIND CHOOSING YOUR CEREMONY & RECEPTION VENUE?

We knew we definitely wanted a coastal, relaxed vibe. Dunes was only the third venue we looked at but we were immediately in love with it and it was exactly what we were looking for. We’d heard they had amazing food and drinks, and it had such a stunning open floorplan that offered a seamless flow from inside to outside. After that we looked for churches in the area for the ceremony and thought Mona Vale Church was really lovely.

TELL US HOW YOU FELT THE MOMENT YOU FOUND YOUR WEDDING DRESS?

My wedding dress was a funny one… I actually didn’t find my wedding dress until we were in the middle of lockdown.

The wedding was only about 6 months away and I was getting desperate, so Amy from Love Marie Bridal sent me a bunch of photos of dresses she thought would suit me. She was honestly so helpful.

I took a gamble and picked a dress that was the total opposite of what I always pictured myself wearing and didn’t even know if it would suit me. When I finally got to try it on for alterations, I was so so relieved because I absolutely loved it!

WHAT DID YOUR BEAUTY REGIME INVOLVE LEADING UP TO THE BIG DAY?

Oh gosh, one of my favourite things about being a bride-to-be was how much you get to just indulge in self-care. I really focused on my skincare and got monthly facials that were for calming and hydrating. I drank sooo much water and had collagen powder every morning, which I think worked wonders for my hair and nails etc. Most importantly I just did exercise I loved and ate foods that made me happy.

DURING THE PLANNING STAGES, WHAT DID YOU FIND THE MOST DIFFICULT?

Funnily enough, I found the big decisions the easiest, and the little decisions the hardest.

The closer to the wedding I got, there was so many little things I didn’t even know about that kind of piled up but I had such amazing help along the way.

DID YOU FIND HAVING A WEDDING PLANNER USEFUL?

So incredibly useful, I can’t recommend it enough. If I could go back, I probably would’ve opted for more of the services Steffi offers. Especially with things like invoices, I lost track and it was so beneficial to have Steffi staying on top of what was due when. It was also amazing having her there on the day behind the scenes making sure everything ran smoothly so I could just enjoy myself.

This is the mood board we created for Jacey and Ben’s wedding . The styling, florals and concepts developed throughout the planning process as new ideas evolved. This was a useful tool to refer back to and provide suppliers with as it ensured everyone was on the same page.

THE FINER DETAILS

MORNING, AFTERNOON OR NIGHT WEDDING?

We did an afternoon ceremony and the reception went from 5:30-10:30pm. We really loved getting to enjoy the daylight for our ceremony and then have the beautiful sunset for our photos and dinner. We had fairy lights draping over the outside area which looked really stunning as it got dark and then loved having the dancing at night.

HOW MANY GUESTS ATTENDED?

We had about 85 guests. That was the perfect amount for the size and layout of Dunes, and I loved the fact that everyone there was people we really love and are important to us. Even with only 85 people I didn’t manage to chat with everyone though!

SITDOWN OR COCKTAIL STYLE?

We had sit down but did share plates. This meant that there was only one meal to sit down for so it was kind of the perfect medium. Our guests got to stand and have cocktails upon arrival and then got to sit down to share delicious food.

WHAT STYLE/THEME WEDDING DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

We went for a white/neutral theme for all our décor, with some lemons throughout to give it that ‘Italian coastal’ vibe, as Ben’s family is from Italy. Our guests also wore coastal/neutral outfits. We’d seen that sort of style done a lot at Dunes and it just suited the venue so well. We loved having open-collar because everyone was super comfortable on a really hot day.

YOUR WEDDING DAY

WHAT DID THE MORNING OF YOUR WEDDING DAY LOOK LIKE?

The morning was super relaxed, which I loved. Before all the craziness of getting ready, my besties took me down to the beach to have some breakfast which was just the best start. We then got ready at my parents house in Collaroy and it was a lot of fun. I had such lovely hair and makeup artists who made the whole experience enjoyable too. I almost forgot I was getting married until my MOH said ‘Ben’s on his way to the church’ and I burst out crying!

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE/MOST MEMORABLE PART OF YOUR WEDDING DAY AND WHY?

That’s so hard to pick! But I’d have to say nothing beats walking down the aisle to the love of your life and saying your vows. It’s so special and I wish I could relive it over and over.

DID YOU HAVE AN OUTFIT CHANGE FOR THE RECEPTION?

I did! Super last minute but I ordered a dress from Revolve that arrived the day before the wedding. I changed into it for the first dance was so glad I did because it was much easier to have a good boogie in.

POST WEDDING

WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU SPEND YOUR HONEYMOON?

We haven’t been on our honeymoon yet! We are going to Hawaii in July and I couldn’t be more excited.

WHAT WAS YOUR BEST INVESTMENT FOR THE WEDDING?

I’d say our best investments were our photographer and videographer. They were the biggest legends and made everything so fun. The venue was also our best decision and all the guests said how beautiful it was.

IF YOU COULD PLAN YOUR WEDDING ALL OVER AGAIN, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY AND/OR WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE FUTURE BRIDES?

There’s honestly nothing I would’ve changed about the day. The best advice that was given to me was to take lots of little moments on your wedding day to look around and take mental pictures and just breathe it all in. There’s SO much love in the room you’ll wish you could bottle it up. And most importantly, steal each other away for a cheeky kiss or two as newlyweds.
